Prepare yourself for a Piano Concert

Friday, March 30, 2007

After mastering piano digitations and learning some basics on music theory and practice, you will probably feel tempted to continue with your musical understanding, improving your piano playing technique.

Advanced piano levels require years of practice and a personal engagement with music to learn the basic style periods toward concert mastering. The time frame for this piano learning stage is from 5 to 10 years between study and practice.

Although, anyone can learn to play the piano at any age, the period of time needed to develop an individual into a concert pianist is the reason why piano lessons are usually aimed to children.

However, whoever is willing to allot some time on a regular basis for attaining an advanced piano technique will be rewarded with delightful musical interpretations over time.

First, you will have to understand the different musical periods or eras, such as Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modernist or 20th century.

Some people believe that the best and easiest way to approach each era is learning over the sheet music of a famous composer, but this is a huge mistake. Every one of the so-called “classic” composers was rarely devoted to write music exclusively of his own era, being often influenced for more than one.

As an example, Ludwig van Beethoven was a composer who wrote music of three different style eras, while Johann Sebastian Bach was strictly stuck to the Baroque music period.

Techniques to playing the piano has changed a little through time, but music of different eras has reflected the changes of society and culture of their respective moment. Today, you can reproduce on your piano any piece of music if you are diligent enough to continue practicing, but if you want to master the classics, you need to enroll in formal music learning.

Take advantage of the Internet and many other elements to study at home, including multimedia programs, and do not let the lack of time let you down if you cannot attend a music school to continue developing your musical skills.
