Finding the Middle C Note
Tuesday, December 20, 2005
The first step to learning piano is to find middle C. This is the most important note for beginning piano players to learn. If you know how to find middle C you will be able to figure out how to place your fingers for the lessons coming up. Now with all those keys on the piano how will I be able to identify one note you may ask? Well there are a few simple steps that I will break down for you, then you will be able to find this piano note without a problem in the future.
The first step when looking at a piano is finding the keys that have two white keys in a row. These keys are B and C respectively. After you do that, you will want to find the 3 black keys in a row. These keys are sharp or flat keys for various notes. What you will need to know about these is that C is set to the left of the 3 black keys.
Now that you can find all the C notes on your piano it is pretty simple to find the middle one. It is really quite simple. Middle C is the note that is closest to the actual middle of the piano. If you have a keyboard with 4 C notes on it, then you can probably locate this key by finding the third one in from the left. Since the rest of the octave is to the right of the note, you will notice that this C is right in the middle of your keyboard.
Hope this helps you get a bit more comfortable with your piano or keyboard. I will be preparing a few tutorials on finger positions, and proper posture in a little bit. Until then, just keep learning piano and practicing the piano notes!
