Choosing a Private Piano Teacher

Self-teaching is a technique for learning almost anything, but when it comes to piano lessons many people prefer the guidance of a teacher for both playing piano and music understanding.

However, how skilled can a piano teacher be?

Because playing piano for fun is not the same as learning music theory, large ensembles for recitals, or enrollment in music aural training, ensure that your teacher's qualifications meet your requirements.

Finding a piano teacher must be your personal quest for excellence, whether you are a beginner or an intermediate student. The first source to look at is your own community. Finding if a piano teacher that is already close to you in fact improves your self-confidence.

The piano is sometimes scaring when you are just learning to play so if the teacher is someone familiar to you, there is no reason to worry if you fall on fingering mistakes. If you don't know a good piano teacher nearby, your friends or acquaintances may know a person that will be great for you.

You must not give up if there is no piano teacher available in your neighborhood. There are lots of qualified teachers wanting to help you develop your music skills, so your nearby music stores are the next stopover, since most of them offer music lessons or can recommend a piano teacher.

These sources are often enough, but you can go further by visiting music colleges, since many on-campus teachers also offer private piano lessons. Now, if you are a modern individual who prefers not to stray to far from home to accomplish the task, doing an online research or browsing the yellow pages are two convenient ways to finding your piano teacher.

Once you locate a candidate, make an appointment to talk about his/her music background, time availability, teaching style, and cost of each lesson. If you are not convinced about his/her qualifications or you do not feel comfortable move on, and go for the next candidate.

In the last instance, your local newspaper may have a piano teacher waiting for you in the classified ads, under the "Employment Wanted" section so good luck!
