Motivation to Play Piano

Wednesday, April 19, 2006

I was practicing Piano the other day when I started to think about what motivates me to practice, and how I could use that to convince myself to practice more. While I was thinking of a lot of reasons such as wanting to be better, I think that the reason that I practice playing piano on a daily basis is fundamentally so I can play pieces better, and learn new ones.

When I learn how to play a new piece, it gives me great enjoyment and motivates me to practice more. However, on the long run, I like to think that I practice so I can express myself better through music. While that is my total goal, it does not really help me practice on a daily level.

Since everyone reading this page is probably at some level of learning the piano. I would recommend that you think about what motivates you to practice your skills. I personally believe that if you can find this motivation, and hone in on it, you will be able to make yourself a better musician.
